I often return to past shoots just to find what I hadn't "seen" while under the pressure of print/press deadlines. A few months ago, I found these two images that I'd evidently dismissed originally.
Though I'd photographed both characters together, I wanted to show their spiritual isolation-- and as always tried to strip as much extraneous detail away as possible. So, I lit Harris with a narrow light that just revealed a side look, the glass, and the table edge. With Mary Beth, I used the staircase and more diffuse "moonlight".

An ongoing series is a visual narrative on the current state of our natural water systems and offers a look back to where water once flowed freely or was in its purest form. By repurposing discarded or unusable manmade materials, it also suggests a future where water's beauty and vitality may only be experienced through artificial means, much like a museum diorama.

October 2017, I was commissioned by Teen Vogue to travel from Miami, Florida to Oaxaca, Mexico to take a single portrait of a young woman. The trip was meant to be a quick 3 day in and out - land, shoot the next day, leave the following morning. I contemplated staying, as I thought, "when would I ever be back here?" That's when I saw Day of The Dead/Día De Los Muertos was coming up, which I had never experienced or understood. Although I am Puerto Rican, the tradition is not something we celebrate. I changed my ticket, and ultimately stayed 40 days by myself, falling in love with the holiday and culture so much, that I returned in 2018, and plan on doing so every year. I had never seen people celebrate death in such a magnificent way - the vibrancy of the marigolds, the elaborate costumes -- I built connections with families, people off the street, and workers of the cemeteries, known as 'Panthéons,' to gain access and understand more of this incredible tradition.

Once, sometimes twice, a year my friends and I would go on these Road Trips. Road trips that would last one-to-three months at time.
Instead of getting hotels we opted to live out of our cars, rented cheap motels in the middle of nowhere and set up camp on the desolate lands we came across we made our way across the USA. These images are an excerpt from a larger project I am working on which is currently untitled and It’s based on friendship and innocence.

Toronto hospital Sunnybrook tapped renowned war photographer Ron Haviv to shoot its branding campaign called “Where Impossible Becomes I'm Possible."Shot in real time, it aims to capture the grit, courage & resilience of patients, & the determination of staff fighting seemingly unbeatable odds. The campaign images were used to create a television ad, as well as billboard & print ads.

For the latest music video from Oakland's psych-pop band Sugar Candy Mountain my intention was to create a unique three dimensional environment.
We used several different projection techniques to achieve a look that felt very surreal while existing in physical form, allowing the band to interact and be fully immersed in the visuals.

In April 2018, Adriana Lima's agent reached out to me with a strong interest in improving her social media by documenting her fitness regimen in Miami, Florida, where I lived at the time. What initially was meant to be a surface level commission, I developed a connection with the super model and began photographing her personally behind the scenes. Although her agent wanted digital/social content, I would always bring my analog gear with aspirations that over time, I would get a moment in. After developing trust, Adriana allowed me to document many aspects of her life and brought me on work sets, to continue photographing her. To be able to direct and photograph one of the most well-known models of our time, became a very personal and intimate project for me.

The Columbian Exchange

On August 3, 1492, Christopher Columbus disembarked his ship in the Bahamas and set into action a chain of events that would leave the world irrevocably changed. In the years after his arrival, Columbus and the later Conquistadores wiped out entire civilizations and transferred fauna, flora, diseases, ideas and technologies between the Old and New Worlds. Needless to say, the ecological impact was devastating. The Europeans killed more Native Americans indirectly through disease than with their own arms. Indigenous species were outcompeted by newcomers. And the transfer of foodstuffs crucially changed people’s diets, even across the farthest reaches of the planet. In the field of history, this process has become to be known as “The Columbian Exchange”.
This photo series tells the story of the “The Columbian Exchange” through the eyes of the foods that were exchanged between the Old and New Worlds.

These minimalistic collage works offer visual synopsis of evergreen human needs of fitting in, standing out, and relating to others.
In the images, both photography and words share equal importance. I challenged myself to include the least amount of information that could still deliver a hit of pattern recognition — most importantly in ourselves. Making the complex topics simpler in order to fine-tune our daily attention to the little things that matter.
